Psalm 68 ... A Father to the Fatherless , a defender of widows, is God in His holy dwelling ,
He sets the lonely into families.
Revelation Life is a ministry that has been established to be a living reflection of Psalm 68.
Our heart is to care for the orphan, the fatherless, the lonely and the abandoned,
to show them the Love of their Heavenly Father and to see this love change not only their lives but also their hearts !
Change a Child, Change a generation, Change a Nation
Simon and Nicola Neal are Directors of Revelation Life, a Charity which is working in Uganda to change the lives
of many who exist in the slums.......
"Slum Life: Life for the average family in a Ugandan slum is dangerous living 24/7.
Death and disease are all around. The most basic of things that you and I would take for granted,
like food, clean water, electricity, proper sanitation etc. are almost non existent.
Most families have to survive on less than £1.50 a week, which is barely enough to ensure they have
some kind of good and clear water to drink, let alone pay for any kind of health care, clothing, education etc.
For a single mother with 5 or more children this is a desperate situation with no easy solutions.
Revelation Life is committed to help bring about long term sustainable change to these slum families,
whilst at the same time dealing with the immediate needs of the communities.
We aim to do this in the following ways:
Street Clubs
Immediate Aid and Relief
Water and Sanitation
Medical Care
Slum Re-Location
Street Clubs: Many of the children we work with are starved of physical contact and a hug is something
they have never experienced before !!
We asked the chairman of our local village what the main needs of the children were and in his report he
said: "they lack - clothing, food, bedding, toilets, property hygiene/sanitation and parental
time and attention....! "So most of our time, in each of our "street clubs"
is spent holding their hands, cuddling them in our arms, playing safe and structured games,
supervising play and sitting chatting with them in the dirt! It blows are minds to see how a little
sad dirty face can be transformed by just a hug and a smile.
Immediate Aid and Relief: The poverty is unbelievable. The houses are not much bigger than 2 metres
by 2 metres - often 1 room houses and up to 15 people can live in each one. Hardly any toilets or
sanitation and raw open sewage running through the streets where the children are sitting playing.
Most children only get 1 meal of day of ‘posha’ (ground maize) and so many are very sick
with malnutrition or suffering and dying from disease such as Malaria and Typhoid.
There is so much that needs to be done.
As little as £1 can change the everyday life of a child in Uganda – the cost of providing
immediate aid/relief is really very small,,,,
Malaria test and treatment £9.
Typhoid test and treatment £20.
Blanket £7
Jerry Can £1.50
Mattress £30.
Mosi Net £3
Pair of Shoes 65p
Water and Sanitation: Sanitation in the slums is very poor, there are often no "toilets" of any kind
and no drainage systems in place so raw sewage runs openly through the narrow passageways and streets
and many people have to walk long distances to find a safe source of drinking water.
We are hoping to build blocks of ‘toilets’ in each slum we work with, to put in good drainage
systems and to help provide a clean and safe source of water for drinking, cooking and bathing...
Medical Care: We are aiming to have a children’s mobile medical unit, to take regular, free, medical
care into the centre of the slums, treating illnesses such as Malaria, Typhoid, Dysentery, Intestinal Works,
Fungal Infections, wounds/infections and HIV – as well as helping to address issues surrounding malnutrition.
Slum Re-location: Everyday we are finding children who are living in immediate danger, in the slums and on the
streets, caring for themselves, living in abusive situations, many who have been abandoned, or left to die.
Babies hidden inside pit latrines and rubbish bins...Countless orphans that a life of extreme poverty
creates every day.
We are planning to build a Children’s village where they will be placed in families
and restored as they receive the love every child deserves. The village will also house widows and their
families who can farm the land and provide for their own needs. We also hope to buy the land the slums are built
on, provide the families living in them with good, affordable housing and then rear down the slum”.
