Situated in the quiet south Buckinghamshire village of Lee Common, in the heart of the Chilterns Lee Common Methodist Church was built in 1839 as a
Primitive Methodist Church. The original carved plaque can still be seen in the front wall of the church.
It is the oldest Methodist church in continuous use in the Amersham circuit of churches.
After 170 years the chapel, refurbished and modernised, continues to provide for its members and the local community.
During the 1990s, like many small churches, we faced the challenge of dwindling membership numbers and rising costs.
With the help and support of our minister and members we embarked on a drive to become more relevant to the needs of our members and community.
Since then we have developed a thriving mother and toddler group, a Sunday Junior Church, and recently we opened our doors to the wider community
as a retreat centre.
With its ‘art deco’ stained glass windows and pinewood ceiling and shutters the chapel provides a warm and relaxing environment in which to feel
God’s presence. The tranquil garden allows visitors and members of the local community to sit and contemplate the peaceful surroundings.
